Dear Two Coats of Paint Readers,
It starts again! The annual campaign—a reminder that survival in the arts isn’t just about making work, but sustaining the framework that allows it to exist and thrive. We know art is essential, and it needs financial support. Today, we launch the 2024 Two Coats of Paint Year-End Fundraising Campaign, because the simple truth is that without funding, the platform falters, the conversation dims.
Last year’s generous reader contributions made big things happen. We curated and published over 200 pieces—articles, interviews, reflections on contemporary painting and its place in the world. We put out gallery guides that traced the pulse of the independent art scene in New York and the Hudson Valley and vicinity. Our Instagram feeds kept pace with exhibitions, documenting moments that might have been lost in the everyday chaos of our political maelstrom. We researched software and updated the newsletter platform when the old system failed. And we organized events: the “Big Tent” exhibition during DUMBO Open Studios, the inaugural Two Coats of Paint Hudson Valley Gallery Crawl, and, upcoming on December 7, an open house for readers, writers, and supporters. These moments mattered, and they were made possible by the support of our community — thank you.
Now, as 2025 approaches, Two Coats of Paint enters its 18th year. Eighteen years of conversation. Eighteen years of connecting artists, ideas, and a community that often feels like it’s defying gravity. Rising rent, rising costs—the pressures aren’t new, but they are always daunting. Still, with your help, we push forward each year, the conversation continues, and the art and writing remain vital.
If you’re inclined to contribute this year, to help keep the dialogue alive, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the campaign. Together, we can make sure the conversation endures.
