Hudson Valley (and vicinity) Selected Gallery Guide: Feb 2024

Geary: Will Hutnick, Shake the Sheets, 2023, acrylic, ink and wax pastel on canvas, 36 x 48 inches

Contributed by Karlyn Benson / A few Hudson Valley galleries are taking a break this month, but many are opening exciting new shows. Highlights include solo presentations by Women’s Studio Workshop co-founder Tatana Kellner at the Garrison Art Center, Sean Hemmerle at Front Room Gallery in Hudson, and Will Hutnick at Geary in Millerton. A notable group show, In the pale moonlight, opens at SEPTEMBER in Kinderhook. At Ann Street Gallery in Newburgh, Jean-Marc Superville Sovak continues his Artist Researcher in Residence project From the Ground UP, featuring collaboratively-designed visions for remembering and honoring African Americans buried in, and disinterred from, Newburgh’s “Colored Burial Ground.” Wes Anderson fans will want to visit Opalka Gallery in Albany to see Carl Sprague: Setting the Stage, featuring Sprague’s designs for numerous films including Asteroid City and The Grand Budapest Hotel. And finally, don’t miss the final two weekends of HOLIDAY at LABspace in Hillsdale.
